Since 2004, roundabouts have been an important part of our roadway landscape in Waterloo Region. These circular intersections improve road safety, manage increased traffic demand, and help improve air quality by eliminating unnecessary stops and idling.

The Region's roundabout education campaign includes the Roundabout Dance commercial.

Why is it called the Roundabout Dance?

It's because, just like in a dance:

  • there is a rhythm to the traffic flow
  • vehicles and pedestrians have to interact
  • pedestrians lead and vehicles follow
  • you have to pay attention and watch each other's moves
  • everyone has to take their turn at the right time

Why is it important for you to pay attention to roundabout signs? Roundabout signs:

  • Are positioned so that you can prepare yourself well in advance of a roundabout;
  • Are positioned so that you can plan your route through a roundabout before you enter it;
  • Help you choose the correct entry lane; and
  • Help you to navigate through a roundabout without conflict with other motorists;
