A TTY is a special device that lets people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired use the telephone to communicate, by allowing them to type messages back and forth to one another instead of talking and listening.
The Region has purchased and installed 16 TTYs in key sites as part of the ongoing commitment to improve access to services for people with disabilities. Based on input from the Canadian Hearing Society the following divisions were identified and given priority for TTY deployment of this service.
