The Regional Cycling Master Plan identifies core and long-term cycling networks and provides guidelines for the Region to work with Area Municipalities and other stakeholders towards an integrated cycling network over the next 20 or so years. The Cycling Master Plan identifies design strategies for the geometrics, signage and pavement markings of cycling facilities, which reflect the prevailing guidelines provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Transportation Association of Canada.
Policies and supporting initiatives are also identified to support use of the cycling network. Among them are policies to phase the network in over time. Priority will be given to constructing the Core Network over the next 10 years, while the Long Term Network will be built over the next 20 plus years. Routes will be implemented in association with Regional and Local road and other infrastructure improvement projects. Projects may also be implemented based on changing construction opportunities or on cycling demand.
