Restoring bicycles for our community

This program has 3 important goals:

1. Teach useful bicycle repair skills.
2. Provide refurbished bikes to people in need in our community.
3. Divert material from landfill.

How does this program work?
*
Old, unwanted, broken bicycles are dropped off at the Waterloo Transfer Station.
*
Partners involved in the program pick up the bicycles.
*
Through partners like the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and Recycle Cycles, high school students and others learn new bicycle repair skills.

Bicycles are given away, donated, or sold at a nominal cost.

Waterloo Transfer Station

Thanks to the generous donations of
Regional residents, over
9 metric tonnes of bikes were
diverted from landfill and reused.
That’s over 700 bikes!

Please note:
  • If you set your bike out to the curb – it will be taken as garbage and landfilled. So, please save valuable landfill space and drop off your bike for this program.
  • Bikes dropped off are for the use of pre-approved partners ONLY. Salvaging is not permitted as per By-law 98-87.
  • The bikes which the partners cannot repair or refurbish get recycled as scrap metal.
