The Water Efficient Technology (W.E.T.) program helps commercial, industrial and institutional sector companies to reduce water use through funding and water-efficient tools. This not only helps companies to decrease operational costs but also allows the company to demonstrate environmental leadership to the community.
    Did you know?
Reducing water use reduces energy consumption - water is purified and delivered with pumps powered by electricity. Then it often has to be pumped again to the top floor of the building, around the facility, and back to the sewer. Heating the water, neglecting leaks, and treating water before it goes to the sewer results in even higher energy costs. Reduce your water use - and you will automatically reduce energy consumption.
    Programs and funding available:
    1. free water use reviews
    2. cost-sharing of up to $10,000 for in-depth water use audit or specific project report
    3. up to $100,000 in W.E.T. funding
    4. free replacement program
    5. rebate incentives
    Services available:
    1. flow logging and leak detection (PDF)
    2. toilet flush volumnes (PDF)
    How to start:
Begin with a free water use review. Regional staff can help to identify potential areas where the company can save water, money and the environment. If the company chooses to progress further, the W.E.T. Program offers co-funding for an in-depth Water Use Audit or specific project report performed by a qualified 3rd party consultant. If the business makes the upgrades proposed from the Audit, the company may qualify for capital funding dollars to help offset the cost of implementing the water saving improvements.

A few major water users in the area have already taken part in the program and are reaping the rewards. It is a win-win situation for the company and the Region. The company lowers its water bill and becomes an environmentally-conscious company, while the Region lowers the water demand.
