INITIATIVES

a) HPAC 2009 Priority Setting

Potential initiatives that HPAC could undertake during 2009 including both new and continued projects were discussed. The committee ranked the initiatives and suggested which projects they would like to work on. Top ranking priorities include: developing a research plan and providing guidance for research undertaken on Regionally Significant Heritage Resources; reviewing and commenting on the Regional Official Plan cultural heritage policy; suggesting improvements for heritage content on the Regional website; conservation of Pioneer Cemeteries; organizing a seminar series on heritage preservation; and developing a plan for disseminating the information available in the Waterloo Regional Heritage Inventory including the newly recorded historical archaeological potential data.

b) Black Bridge Road Bridge Plaque Unveiling

The Black Bridge Road Bridge Plaque unveiling was very well attended. The Hespeler Heritage Centre was an excellent venue and the Company of Neighbours were great hosts. Pat Wagner was recognized for her work researching and writing the text for the plaque.

Councillor Haalboom circulated several recent media articles including “Preservation and Development, Engaged in a delicate Dance” and “Being Energy Efficient is so, like, 19th-Century”. Both articles spoke to the challenges of the adaptive re-use of heritage resources.
