DELEGATIONS
Mike Henderson, the Region of Waterloo’s Project Manager for the Trussler Road rehabilitation project, spoke to HPAC and explained how Design and Construction have incorporated the recommendations from the Scenic Corridor Management Plan into the plans for the road rehabilitation project. For example, changes to the road profile (cut and fill) were minimized, significant woodlots were not impacted, the rural ditches were maintained, and a tree replacement program, which maintains the diversity of vegetation, is being implemented.

INITIATIVES
a) Heritage Preservation Workshop
A. Junker updated the committee on the status of the workshop. Members of HPAC volunteered to post advertisements at different locations across the Region. W. Wright Cascaden, R. Hackett, and A. Junker volunteered to help at the registration desk and with the lunch set up on November 14. It was determined that J. Haalboom would deliver the greeting at the workshop and A. Junker would introduce the speaker.
b) Educational Resources for Schools
J. Rickert-Hall discussed the possibility of using a map that was produced by the Region as an educational resource. The map illustrates the location of a school and it’s proximity to heritage resources (listed and designated built heritage, old bridges, early farmsteads, etc.). The goal would be to make the map interactive and accessible so that schools across the Region can identify what cultural resources are located nearby. More discussion is required to determine the best format for the map, how to make the map accessible, and what grade level it would be useful for.
c) Regionally Significant Heritage Resources—Public Building Inventory
A. Fitzpatrick distributed copies of the existing work that has been done on the Public Building Inventory to those who volunteered to help with the project. Members of HPAC will help to verify and expand upon the existing research.
d) Heritage Bridge Recognition. Update on the Main Street Bridge
A. Fitzpatrick updated HPAC on the status of the bridge plaque. The second proof has been produced and it was circulated to members of HPAC. Copies of the proof were given to J. Haalboom and P. Wagner to be reviewed. Other copies will be circulated to Valerie Spring, Linda Schneider, Gary McDonald and Jim Quantrell.
e) Scenic Roads—Classification and Work Plan, Regional Road Corridor Design.
Councilor J. Haalboom provided more information on the project and it was determined that HPAC should create a document that outlines the values of the historic roads in the Region. This document would help inform rehabilitation or reconstruction projects. It was determined that a two phase approach will be used. The first phase will focus on creating a general overview of the values of Regional historic roads. The second phase will focus on specific roads in order of priority as they are scheduled for rehabilitation projects. K. Hammond has volunteered to assist with this project.
f) Current Initiatives
Members of HPAC were invited to attend a design critique for PLAN 210 course Planning, Design and the Environment, PLAN 210 course at the University of Waterloo that is taking place on December 6.
