Region Launches Restaurant Spray Valve Replacement Program
The Region of Waterloo is continuing its ongoing efforts to conserve water in the region by offering a pilot restaurant pre-rinse spray valve replacement program. The program allows up to 350 restaurants to receive a free spray valve installation for dishwashing. These new technology valves will help restaurants save water and energy costs, and helps the Region achieve its water-saving goals.
A 2004 Region of Waterloo study concluded that replacing inefficient pre-rinse spray valves using hot water will save small businesses an average of 245 litres of water per valve per day or approximately $1,500 in water and energy costs over five years. Any restaurant or food service establishment is urged to take part by calling 519-575-4021. If you are unsatisfied with the performance of the new valve, your old one will be re-installed at no cost to you.
At no cost to the restaurant, the Region’s contractor will replace inefficient pre-rinse spray valve(s). Water is a precious resource and the Water Efficiency group is working with the community to promote personal conservation techniques and create an overall reduction in the amount of water used on a Regional basis.
