The Provincial Offences Court is responsible for the administration, courtroom support, and municipal prosecution of the POA offences as well as municipal by-laws within the Region of Waterloo. The Provincial Offences Act encompasses approximately 120 different Acts with the most common violations falling under the Highway Traffic Act, the Liquor Licence Act, and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act but also includes offences enforced by the Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Environment, and Department of Natural Resources. Criminal, family, and small claims court matters are administered through the Ministry of the Attorney General.
