The Friends of Joseph Schneider Haus is an active organization of volunteers that provide support for many Museum programmes. The Board meets monthly in addition to more frequent sub-committee meetings. Activities include fund-raising, advocacy and ensuring community-wide support for the programmes at the Museum. In recent years, the Friends have established a successful Gift Shop and published an award-winning Lottery Calendar. They fund publications, purchase artifacts for the Museum, and sponsor the annual Folk Artist-in Residence, the Edna Staebler Research Fellowship, and the Quilt Block Contest programmes.

Special projects include the recently completed museum and research wing of the Haus, the annual Folk Artist-in-Residence programme, the annual Quilt Block Contest, the Gift Shop and research fellowships awarded in Edna Staebler's name.

Some of our members' interest focus on acquisitions for the permanent collections of the Museum while others assist with our publications such as From Pennsylvania to Waterloo and our reprint edition of Sauerkraut and Enterprise by Edna Staebler. Ian Bell, Folk Artist-in-Residence for 1993, produced a cassette tape of his music, "Singing in a Strange Land", with our financial help rather than our musical talent. We also assist Museum staff with special events, gallery exhibits and other on-going programmes.

We welcome new members and need your special talents to aid the Museum. Please contact the Museum for more information about joining our group or about items we sell. (742-7752)
